Acoustic-Structure Simulation of Exhaust Systems by Coupled FEM and Fast BEM
The sound properties of modern cars play an increasingly important role on the overall impression of a vehicle. One of the major sound sources is hereby the exhaust system, which is exposed to large pressure pulsations resulting from the periodically blown out exhaust gas of the car engine. These large pressure pulsations lead to vibrations of the thin walls of the exhaust system and thus creat...
متن کاملFem/aca-bem Coupling for Structural- Acoustic Design Sensitivity Analysis
The structural-acoustic optimization shows high potential in minimization of radiated noise especially for thin shell geometries. Acoustic design sensitivity analysis can provide information on how the geometry change affects the acoustic performance of the given structure, so it is an important step of the acoustic design and optimization processes. But the sensitivity analysis of the structur...
متن کاملDesign Optimization of Structural Acoustic Problems Using Fem-bem
A design optimization procedure of a noise-vibrationharshness (NVH) problem of a complicated vehicle structure is presented by assuming the acoustic pressure does not affect the structural vibration. The steady-state dynamic behavior of the vehicle is calculated from the frequency response finite element analysis, while the sound pressure level within the acoustic cavity is calculated from the ...
متن کاملA coupled BEM and energy flow method for mid-high frequency internal acoustic
This paper deals with the behaviour of acoustic cavities in the mid-high frequency range. The method proposed here is based on an energy flow method named Simplified Energy Method (MES). MES method is quite efficient in the mid-high frequency range but the directivity of the boundary sources is not well estimated. We propose a hybrid method which couples MES and the Boundary Element Method (BEM...
متن کاملBEM-FEM coupling for wave-structure interaction
We present a numerical method, based on a coupling of finite elements and boundary elements, to solve a fluid–solid interaction problem posed in the plane. The boundary unknowns involved in our formulation are approximated by a spectral method. We provide error estimates for the Galerkin method and present numerical results that illustrate the accuracy of our scheme.
